Black Oracle: Preview

Preview to a zine submission piece I was invited to participate in.

Been a really long time since I've finished an art piece, programming has taken over my life.

Ipad Sketch 3: The Druid

Slowly, I'm getting back into this art thing I do.  I'm really digging my iPad and its capabilities as a drawing tablet.

Here again I have one of my many, many D&D characters.    This particular session I play a half-elven "neutral" druid (who is questioned on whether he might have a little dwarf blood in him).  He and his owl companion are Owl and Thistle and they refer to themselves in the "Royal We."  The look on my DM's face was pretty good when I introduced that little character trait.

Ipad Sketch 2: The Alchemist and The Enchanter

Two Procreate sketches I did last month that I didn't get a chance to post.  A short one of my Alchemist from Pathfinder and my Enchanter from my other 2nd edition D&D game.

Ipad Sketch 1: The Bard

In my continuing adventures as a pen and paper role-play gamer...

I recently received an iPad Air from my online mobile development program.  While the main propose of the device is to be used for testing out applications live, it would be remiss of me,  if I did not take the opportunity to also use it as an on-the-go digital sketchpad.

I did this sketch in Procreate, which has a video recorder build into the application so that I can export the drawing process when I'm "done."  Thankfully, the learning curve isn't high, but the lack of pressure sensitivity is something to get use to.  Hopefully I'll be able to purchase a bluetooth pen device that can simulate pressure sensitivity.  Still, for only playing with the iPad and Procreate for a few hours, I think I can live without it for a little while longer.

Fat Budgie

Looking back at my YouTube channel, I found this.  This was the first video I ever recorded, there is actually a 30 minute version of this video but I condensed the time.  No frills like a title screen or music, just a straight speed painting video.

Under Renovations

I took a really long look at my personal website and decided it was time to update its content.  Most of the work that was previously linked to are still available if you are interested in seeing the works I have done for my previous employers, upon request.  I also took down the pages of sketch work, it seemed like too much to browse through.  New artwork will primarily be in the form of blog posts and sketches which I will share via social media like Twitter and Tumblr.

New content will likely include an expansion on my shirt design concepts and if there is enough generated interest, I will put them up for sale.  Of course, more sketch videos because I enjoy them.

Hopefully the new structure will help with navigation, plus less can be more.  Keep checking back for future updates!

T-shirts

For a better part of 2009 - 2010 I was really into making skate deck designs.  I still have a few of the boards I ordered for my personal art wall in fact.  The only one I am still proud of and have up for sale is the Zombie Cupcake deck.

Also in 2009 I opened up a Redbubble account as a way to encourage myself to design and sell t-shirts.  Of course, I promptly abandoned and forgot I ever made it.  However, now I find myself with time on my hands and the Adobe CC at my disposal.  So, finally I uploaded a new design based on the soul crushing experience of rolling a critical fail in any of my D20 pen and paper roleplaying games.

Included in the two designs I have up is a t-shirt version of Zombie Cupcakes.  Check them out!

Got a song

Another March and another ECCC. For those not native or even familiar with the Seattle area, ECCC is the Emerald City Comiccon. I only went today (Saturday) but it was still pretty fun.  Saw plenty of my friends who were vendoring this year and bought some art. Unfortunately not as much as previous years but got some stickers and shirts.

I can see the ferry terminal so I'll leave you with one of my newer D&D characters.  Tobias King, the half-elven Bard.

And as is traditional, my ECCC loot.  The some of artists I got treasure from this year were: Enfu, Wendi Chen, and Alphonso Orozco.  Check them out, they are awesome.

Dragon Head Video

I actually recorded this video awhile ago, but because I had yet to get video editing software on my Mac and my PC laughed at me last time I tried to render, I had to wait a few months.  So here it is.  The latest of my digital sketching videos.

Here is the actually sketch.

Life Update

So it has been awhile since I've updated with any significant art and I'm poorer for it.  However I do have this to present one of the art calls I painted for the Stone Way Cafe gallery artwalk in Fremont.

However, other than those pieces I haven't worked on personal pieces since October because I'm ramping up my focus on my continuing education.  Since July, I've been attending school online to help supplement my Fine Arts degree with something in Computer Science.  So I'm attempting to learn the the nuances of mobile development from design to code.  It's been good for the most part but I'm coming close to my second "academic year" and it's about to get serious.

Hopefully when stuff balances out I'll be able to draw more and maybe in the future present you guys with mobile applications.
